Chikkei studied under his father Nakabayashi Chikuto (1776-1853) and also under Yamamoto Baiitsu (1783-1856). He is know for his eccentricity as a person and as a nanga artist with a distinctive style. This painting displays a dynamic brushwork in an evocative mountainous landscape.
